The “Experimantal Trauma Surgery”, research department of the hospital for Trauma Surgery (Head: Prof. Seekamp), led by Prof. Dr rer. nat. Sabine Fuchs addresses the topic of bone physiology within bone regeneration respectively pathophysiological diseases and methods of bone substitution. Here, the major focus lies on controlling and improving the vascularisation (blood vessel formation) by using adult stem cells, biologically active factors and biomaterials.

Tasks within the project:

  • Evaluation of fucoidans for musculoskeletal fields of application like bone regeneration, osteoporosis and bone tumors.
  • Evaluation of fucoidans for controlling vascularisation and inflammatory mechanisms
  • Developing and testing of possible types of application of fucoidans, e.g. hydrogels
